Three ways I work with steel
Every piece starts as a 3D model and a cutting algorithm I write myself. Then the steel is cut by laser and assembled by hand.
- Low poly9 worksLarge figures assembled from hundreds of flat stainless-steel facets and riveted by hand. Many are lit from inside.
- Sliced5 worksParallel laser-cut plates computed by my own parametric algorithm. The form appears as you walk around it.
- Kinetic & light2 worksInstallations that move with the wind or come alive with light.
How a commission works
Tell me about the place
Where the sculpture will stand, how big it should be, what it should say. A photo of the space helps.
3D model
I design the form and write the cutting algorithm. You see the model before any steel is cut.
Cutting and assembly
The sheets are laser-cut, then assembled, riveted or welded by hand. LED lighting is built in when the piece needs it.
Delivery
The finished sculpture is delivered and set up in its place.
